Why an aloe vera face mask, what’s in it for me …or my skin
A basic aloe vera facial mask is particularly useful after sunbathing. It hydrates and relaxes your skin and starts or speeds up the healing of your sunburned skin
The aloe plant and its juice are filled with vitamins and minerals, enzymes, amino acids, natural sugars, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial agents. The balance and combination of these ingredients seem to give it its healing properties

Some useful tips
Before applying any facial mask clean your face and neck with fresh water. Take off all cosmetics, creams, lotions, in short: everything. Use a non abrasive, non aggressive soap if necessary. When finished, pat your skin dry
Even better is to take a hot shower or a steam bath to clean and open up your pores. For some useful steam bath suggestions & tips check our steam bath page
When you have applied the aloe vera face mask of choice make sure you take your time to lie down, place a towel under your head and neck. Put 2 cucumber slices on your eyes; or use 2 used and cooled down chamomile teabags (our personal favorite!) or 2 cotton pads soaked in rose or lavender water
But most important:
Think positive, happy thoughts and relax... this is actually half of the secret of these recipes!

Aloe Vera gel
When we talk about aloe vera gel in these aloe vera face mask recipes, we mean that it is best to use the Aloe Vera Barbadensis 99.9% pure gel. Or if you have aloe vera plants in your garden or balcony……well there's nothing like the real thing as we say
A small word of caution: Before you use aloe vera in any form, we recommend you do a patch test on a small piece of skin (e.g. behind your ear)to test your sensitivity to it
