We have the recipe you bring the energy
…and the ingredients, a food processor or mixing bowl of course

Why an avocado mask, what’s in it for me
…or my skin?

Avocado is an all natural and highly effective ingredient to smooth and moisturize dry skin. It's also an extremely rich source of vitamins and lecithin which is very helpful in restoring your skin back to health

When using an avocado facial mask, the oil from the avocado dissolves fat and dirt that clogs your pores. Besides this it is also a natural skin firmer and works particularly well on the neck area

If you want to find out more about avocado as an active ingredient in do-it-yourself facial masks visit our homemade facial mask basics page by clicking on the link. There you can also find out more about many other possible ingredients and ways to combine them into your own signature facial mask recipe

Some useful tips

Before applying any facial mask clean your face and neck with fresh water. Take off all cosmetics, creams, lotions, in short: everything. Use a non abrasive, non aggressive soap if necessary. When finished, pat your skin dry

Even better is to take a hot shower or a steam bath to clean and open up your pores. For some useful steam bath suggestions & tips check our steam bath page

When you have applied the avocado facial mask of choice make sure you take your time to lie down; place a towel under your head and neck. Put 2 cucumber slices on your eyes; or use 2 used and cooled down chamomile teabags (our personal favorite!) or 2 cotton pads soaked in rose or lavender water

But most important:

Think positive, happy thoughts and relax...
this is actually half of the secret of these recipes!

Homemade facial masks

Basic Avocado mask
(For dry skin)

The most basic avocado facial mask, as always strength in simplicity; it nourishes, moisturizes and cleans your pores

What do you need:

  • 1 ripe Avocado...and nothing more

How to do it:

Cut the avocado in half, take out the pit. Now peel it, cut it in parts and mash it to a pulp

Simply spread this gently and equally with your fingertips on your clean face and neck; keep the eye area clear

Now lie down, relax and leave the mask on for 30 minutes

Then wash it off with cold water; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally tone and apply a moisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside

That was easy? Avocado is a valued ingredient in natural skin care recipes, and it can be mixed with many others. Honey and Olive oil are the most favorite for a simple but effective moisturizing combination. But you can look around and carefully experiment with whatever ingredients you think are useful to you or read on for more
