It's all made clear; these face mask recipes are as simple as ABC, affordable or downright cheap and you probably have the ingredients already somewhere in your kitchen cabinets

We have the recipe you bring the energy!
…and the ingredients, a food processor or mixing bowl of course

Why an egg face mask, what’s in it for me
…or my skin?

The ancient egg face mask is a very useful and well respected element in natural skin care. Egg whites cleanse, exfoliate and tighten; where egg yolks moisturize, feed, and soothe your skin. This combination made the egg almost an indispensable ingredient in homemade face masks until today

If you want to find out more about eggs, egg whites or yolks as an active ingredient in do-it-yourself facial masks visit our homemade facial mask basics page by clicking on the link. There you can also find out more about many other possible ingredients and ways to combine them into your own signature facial mask recipe

Some useful tips

Before applying any facial mask clean your face and neck with fresh water. Take off all cosmetics, creams, lotions, in short: everything. Use a non abrasive, non aggressive soap if necessary. When finished, pat your skin dry

Even better is to take a hot shower or a steam bath to clean and open up your pores. For some useful steam bath suggestions & tips check our steam bath page

When you have applied the egg face mask of choice make sure you take your time to lie down, place a towel under your head and neck. Put 2 cucumber slices on your eyes; or use 2 used and cooled down chamomile teabags (our personal favorite!) or 2 cotton pads soaked in rose or lavender water

But most important:

Think positive, happy thoughts and relax...
this is actually half of the secret of these recipes!

facial mask recipe

Basic Egg face mask
(For all skin types)

With this basic do-it-yourself egg face mask we'll use the egg white to draw out the oil and the egg yolk to moisturize. It also works as an astringent which tightens your skin

What do you need:

  • 1 Egg
  • few drops of Lemon juice (optional)

How to do it:

Separate the egg white and yolk into different bowls. If you have oily skin add a few drops of lemon juice to the egg white, this will help drain excess oil (don't if you have dry skin, it will only irritate your skin)

Spread this gently and equally with your fingertips, cotton bud or a face mask brush or spatula on your clean face and neck: keep the eye and mouth area clear

Now lie down, relax and leave the mask on for 20-25 minutes, until it "hardens out"Take the egg white off your face, use cold water if necessarySpread the egg yolk in the same way as you did the egg whiteAgain lie down, relax and leave the mask on for another 20-25 minutes

Then wash it off with a warm wet wash cloth and warm water, end with a splash of cold; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally apply a moisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside

facial mask recipe

Frozen Honey, Egg face mask
(For dry skin)

This egg face mask is actually an gigantic frozen "chapstick" or egg-icicle, and is particularly soothing on a sunburned skin

What do you need:

  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon organic Honey
  • 1/2 cup Coconut oil

How to do it:

Whip the egg until you have a nice and smooth froth. Heat up the coconut oil until it melts, don't let it get hot. Slowly add the molten liquid coconut oil and honey to the whipped egg. Mix gently until you get a uniform cream

This is the tricky part, you will have to make sort of an enormous frozen "chapstick" from this mixture so you can easily apply it later. You can use a toilet roll that stands up right in a small bowl, pour and scoop the mixture in the roll

You could also use an empty deodorant stick or something alike that works for you. Put this in the freezer overnight Take the stick out of the freezer and apply it to your clean face and neck; keep the eye area clear

Now lie down, relax and leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes

Then wash it off with a warm wet wash cloth and warm water, end with a splash of cold; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally apply a moisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside

You can wrap the stick in plastic and put it back in the freezer for next time

Milk, Lemon, Witch-Hazel, Egg face mask
(For all skin types)

Another time tested egg face mask recipe, claimed to be the favorite recipe of Marie Antoinette the wife of the French king Louis XVI. If so it must have been with normal milk instead of powdered milk because that was not invented yet. Nonetheless a "royal" mask

Note: Be careful with the witch hazel and lemon because they can be quiet harsh on dry skin

What do you need:

  • 1 Egg
  • 4 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons non-fat dry Milk Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Witch Hazel

How to do it:

Put the ingredient in a bowl and mix them well with a whisk until you have a smooth paste which can be applied to your face without it running

Spread the paste gently and equally with a facial mask brush or spatula on your clean face and neck; keep the eye area clear

Now lie down, relax and leave the mask to dry for 15 minutes

Then wash it off with a soft warm wash cloth and warm water, end with a splash of cold; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally apply a moisturizer

A small word of caution: before you apply any mask, we recommend you do a patch test on a small piece of skin to test your sensitivity to it
