Some useful tips
Before applying any facial mask clean your face and neck with fresh water. Take off all cosmetics, creams, lotions, in short: everything. Use a non abrasive, non aggressive soap if necessary. When finished, pat your skin dry
Even better is to take a hot shower or a steam bath to clean and open up your pores. For some useful steam bath suggestions & tips check our steam bath page
When you have applied the fruit mask of choice make sure you take your time to lie down, place a towel under your head and neck. Put 2 cucumber slices on your eyes; or use 2 used and cooled down chamomile teabags (our personal favorite!) or 2 cotton pads soaked in rose or lavender water
To make your face mask experience even more satisfying we suggest you check our quick facial tips page. These will smooth things out just a little bit more

Facial mask recipes
Basic fruit mask
(For all skin types)
A basic fruit mask is as simple as can be, you pick your fruit of choice, depending on what you want it to do, mash it and apply it straight to your face. We don't think it will become any simpler than this
However ask yourself what you want the fruit mask to accomplish. Does it need to clean, tighten, moisturize or feed your facial skin? Also do a patch test on a small piece of skin (e.g. behind your ear) to see if there are no surprises
Fruits that are very useful in these simple fruit masks are:

|
These are just to give you an idea, if you look around you will probably find many more fruity options. In some cases you could add a little bit of warmed up extra virgin Olive or organic Honey to enhance the moisturizing and soothing effect on your skin
When you mashed the fruit, spread this gently and equally with your fingertips on your clean face and neck: keep the eye area clear
Now lie down, relax and leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes
Then wash it off with alternately cold and warm water and end with a splash of cold; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally apply a moisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside

Honey, Orange & Banana fruit mask
(For all skin types)
Every single fruit mask so far sounded like very healthy and tasty desert, so does this one. But they all work just as well or even better as a facial mask
Again an exfoliating, stimulating fruit facial that also moisturizes and feeds your skin; and an added bonus is the honey. Honey is a humectant which means it naturally keeps moisture inside, under your skin, exactly where it belongs
What do you need:
How to do it:
Warm up the honey until it becomes liquid (not too hot!) by putting it in a small glass or metal bowl which is immersed in hot water. Mash the banana to a pulp and add the orange juice, cream and honey. Blend it into a smooth and uniform substance
Spread this gently and equally with your fingertips on your clean face and neck: keep the eye area clear
Now lie down, relax and leave the mask on for 15 minutes
Then wash it off with alternately cold and warm water and end with a splash of cold; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally apply amoisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside

Pineapple, Papaya, Mango & Honey fruit mask
(For all skin types)
Is it a fruit salad or a fruit mask? We decided it's both
As a fruit mask it is good for all skin types except sensitive and tender skin. It lightens your skin color a bit, makes the skin soft and shiny, shrinks your pores and stimulates skin recovery. The honey finishes it off by repairing, keeping the moisture inside and making your skin feel as soft and smooth as ever
What do you need:
How to do it:
Warm up the honey until it becomes liquid (not too hot!) by putting it in a small glass or metal bowl which is immersed in hot water. Mash the papaya, mango and pineapple in a food processor and add the honey. Blend it into a smooth and uniform mash
Spread this gently and equally with your fingertips on your clean face and neck: keep the eye area clear
Now lie down, relax and leave the mask on for 20 minutes
Then wash it off with lukewarm water and end with a splash of cold; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally apply a moisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside

Some words of Caution
A lot of fruits contain citric acid. Lemon, lime and orange (juice) in specific. When you use them in a skin treatment always be careful with how much you use. Too much can cause acid burns. Also if you have sensitive skin be extra aware with these ingredients
Same goes for all essential oils, this is really powerful stuff; be very careful what and how much you use
Because you can never be too careful when it comes to your skin, always do a patch test on a small piece of skin (e.g. behind the ear) to see how your skin reacts to separate ingredients
