What do you need:
How to do it:
Coarsely crush the walnut husks and cover them with water. Put it on the stove and let this simmer for 5-6 hours replacing vaporized water
Strain the water, take the husks and put them in a piece of cloth. Squeeze to get as much water out as possible and pour it back in the pot. Boil it until you have about ¼ left
Mix this with a teaspoon of ground cloves and put it in the fridge for a day, stir it regularly
Before you use it strain the liquid through a piece of cheesecloth. Now shampoo your hair, close the sink and place a large bowl in it. Hang over this to rinse your hair repeatedly with the mixture; about 15 times. Don’t forget to put on gloves because it can seriously stain. After the last time leave it for 5 minutes and rinse it out with fresh water
Note: if this sounds too complicated you can also boil the crushed walnut husks for 1 hour and then squeeze them and take the colored water to rinse your hair. This might work for people with lighter hair, and seeing it’s a simple rinse it will not color as strong as the more complicated version

The infamous Kool-Aid, not only good to drink and seriously colorful but also very useful as a homemade hair color
What do you need:
How to do it:
Mix the appropriate amount of Kool aid in a bowl; use the unsweetened kind not to get sticky hair. Remember you can also mix colors to get fascinating off the grid results…but we didn’t say that in case somebody asks…
Add a few drops of water to make a paste, don’t make it too watery. Then mix in the corn starch or some drops of hair conditioner so you can apply it more easily. Stir well to make a smooth lump less paste
Before you start put some petroleum jelly on the skin around your hairline and especially your ears; this will make it easier to wash leaking colors off
Now the fun begins! Apply the color paste into your hair, cover from root to end and massage it into your hair not your scalp; you might need some help with this
Wrap your hair in plastic shrink wrap to avoid leakage and secure it with tape. This will keep the stuff in your hair…and not on your pillow because you’ll have to leave it in overnight
Sleep on it and dream nice, happy and colorful dreams to boost the whole coloring process…well we hope it does anyway
In the morning take off the wrap and be very surprised by the results. Now wash your hair thoroughly, put in conditioner and wash it again
Take a comb through your hair and let it dry to settle, the color will be less obvious when your hair is dry
NOTE: the lighter the color of your hair, the brighter the results. However if you are a brunette don't add lighter colors, it could make your hair turn gray-ish and quiet ugly frankly, but that’s an opinion not a fact. If you have darker hair you could slightly bleach it with hydrogen-peroxide, careful with the strength and quantities!

Another homemade hair color option is natural food coloring. Liquid or powdered, the ones to color drinks, icing, cakes etc
What do you need:
How to do it:
Pour the food color of choice in an empty shampoo bottle. Remember you can also mix colors to get some wild and interesting results. Add some shampoo (not too much) to make it easier to apply. Shake to mix it all well
Before you start put some petroleum jelly on the skin around your hairline and especially your ears; this will make it easier to wash leaking colors off
Now the fun stuff; wet your hair and apply the color shampoo into your hair. Cover from root to end and massage it into your hair not your scalp; you might need some help with this. If you have blond, light or bleached hair leave it in for about 30 minutes. For darker hair it obviously takes a bit longer, about 1 to 1.5 hour
Sit down, read your favorite magazine or book and think nice, happy and colorful thoughts Then rinse it out with lukewarm water
Take a comb through your hair and let it dry to settle, the color will be less obvious when your hair is dry
Well there you go, have fun and enjoy your new colorful hair… and life style
NOTE: same as above, the lighter your hair color the brighter the results. However if you are a brunette don't add lighter colors, it could make your hair turn gray-ish and quiet ugly frankly, but again, that’s an opinion not a fact. If you have darker hair you could slightly bleach it with hydrogen-peroxide, careful with the strength and quantities!

Because of radical results and or possible allergic reactions, always try and see how your body reacts to the separate ingredients you use Do a patch test first before making your own homemade hair dye to ensure you don't have any allergic reactions |
